Comer targets Penn Biden Center, demands list of employees who could access classified documents

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer is calling for a deeper investigation of the Penn Biden Center after classified Obama-era documents were found inside a closet at the think tank.

Comer is turning his attention away from documents found in President Biden’s garage in Wilmington after White House lawyers claimed no visitor log exists for the residence. The Republican now requests that the University of Pennsylvania, parent of the PBC, provide a detailed list of anyone who may have had access to the think tank’s offices in Washington, DC.

Comer sent a letter to UPenn president Mary Elizabeth Magill on Wednesday. In addition to personnel records, the letter, obtained by Punchbowl News, seeks information about foreign influence in the PBC, particularly donations from China.

“The Committee has learned that UPenn received tens of millions of dollars from anonymous Chinese sources, with a sharp increase in donations when it was announced that then-former Vice President Biden would lead the Penn Biden Center initiative,” Comer wrote.

“These donations were made not only as President Biden explored a potential presidential run and launched his campaign, but also as his family and associates pursued lucrative financial ventures with partners in China,” the letter continues. “The American people deserve to know if the Chinese Communist Party, through Chinese companies, influenced the potential policies of the Biden Administration with large anonymous donations to UPenn and the Penn Biden Center.”

Comer’s letter eventually requests all documents related to donations from China, including a list of Chinese donors. It also seeks a list of all PBC employees, all people who had key card access to think tank offices, and a visitor log of all people who met Biden at PBC offices.

White House lawyers have so far found three batches of lost classified documents from Biden’s time as vice president, one in the PBC offices and two more inside the president’s home in Wilmington, Delaware.
