White House insists Biden takes classified documents “seriously” after saying “he has no regrets”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined on Friday to answer questions from reporters about classified documents found at President Biden’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, or the president’s comment that “it’s not regrets” his handling of these materials.
During a press conference, Jean-Pierre announced that Biden will retire to his home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, for the weekend. But when asked if his trip home had anything to do with classified documents found at his Wilmington residence, Jean-Pierre evaded the question, referring reporters to either the White House counsel’s office or the Department. of Justice to learn about new developments.
“I am not going to comment on that article from here. I will just continue to be prudent and consistent and respect the Justice Department’s process,” Jean-Pierre said.
Another reporter asked a follow-up question about a statement Biden made while touring California to observe storm recovery efforts on Thursday.

“We found that a handful of documents were filed in the wrong place,” Biden said. “We immediately handed them over to the [National] Archives and Department of Justice. We are fully cooperating and hope this is resolved quickly.”
He added: “I think they’re going to find there’s nothing there. I have no regrets. I’m following what the lawyers have told me they want me to do. It’s exactly what we’re doing. There’s nothing there.” ”

When asked what he meant, Jean-Pierre declined to comment further.
“I am not going to go into details or I am not going to go beyond what the president has said,” he told reporters.

“I’ll reiterate from here… basically what he’s told all of you, many times at this point, that he does indeed take classified information seriously, he does indeed take classified documents seriously. I’m just not going to go any further. of that,” she added.
Jean-Pierre declined to comment on additional follow-up questions, leaving “the president’s words to stand on their own.”
The White House said Biden’s lawyers discovered classified documents and official records on four separate occasions: on November 2 at the offices of the Penn Biden Center in Washington, on December 20 in the garage of the president’s home in Wilmington and the November 11th. and 12 in the library of the president’s house.

Biden previously criticized his predecessor for his possession of such sensitive records.
Last week, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur, a former federal prosecutor from Maryland, as special counsel to oversee the Justice Department’s investigation into the documents.
